Senior Researcher/Researcher in Transport psychology

DTU Transport is the largest transport research institution in Denmark, and one of the largest university based transport research departments in Europe. The research at the department lies broadly within the transport domain based on different methodological disciplines. The research is applied in teaching, public sector consultancy and innovation all with the aim to benefit society.

Transport psychology provides explanations for human behaviour in transport. It combines knowledge of the effects of individual characteristics with a mapping of the travel behaviour of individuals and groups. Methods used include qualitative analyses, quantitative statistical analyses by use of different uni- and multivariate methods, experimental studies, case-studies and scenarios. The research is applied in e.g. traffic safety and initiatives to encourage greener behaviour.

Responsibilities and tasks
The position involves project based research at an international level and public sector consultancy. The specific research could be focused on topics like:

  • Travel socialization for example the formation of travel mode attitudes and norms taking influences from social norms, parents, peers, mobility culture etc. into account.
  • Road user behavior and mobility needs of different road user segments (e.g. Immigrants, single parents and older persons) and identification of key attitudinal, spatial and demographic factors.
  • Development and refinement of behavioural measurement scales using different methodological approaches e.g. surveys or experimental methods such as a driving simulator, as well as combinations of methodological approaches.

As most of the research at DTU Transport is externally funded, the research is organised in project teams, so project management as well as active participation in fund-raising are expected at the Senior Researcher level. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to a continuous expansion of national and international networking activities.
