On behalf of Novozymes, Speedrecruiters ApS are looking for a highly qualified engineer within Applied Discovery Bioenergy Department.

Novozymes’ Applied Discovery Bioenergy Department
The Applied Discovery Bioenergy Department (ADBD) is part of the Novozymes’ R&D, which is located in Bagsvaerd, Denmark, close to Copenhagen.

The role of the ADBD is to bridge between the discovery R&D and the application of Novozymes’ technologies in the bioenergy industry. ADBD is responsible for developing new innovative solutions for the industry enabled by the use of enzymes.

ADBD is working on processes where the enzymes are applied in an industrial context. Process configurations have a large impact on the performance as well as on the capital and operating cost. The understanding of these relationships is requiring engineering oriented skills.

The working environment is informal and motivating, and it reflects a high degree of continuous employee satisfaction. The department has intensive cooperation towards external partners and this particular position is linked directly to a partner in Italy, in Northern Italy.

Today ethanol constitutes 8% of the global gasoline consumption, but the potential is much larger. Five commercial scale cellulosic ethanol plants around the world are currently under commissioning, demonstrating a technology for sustainable production of fuel ethanol from agricultural residues with the potential of replacing a much larger fraction of the gasoline demand, for EU alone, more than 2/3 can be replaced.

However, the technology goes beyond ethanol.

Innovation is expected to continue into production of bio based chemicals with a potential for replacing the petrochemical based materials that surrounds us today and thereby offering an alternative to fossil sources that complement other renewable alternative energies very well in solving the long term global challenges of transforming the pre-sustainable industrial society into the sustainable industrial society.

Technical qualifications

  • Beside the link to Italy, you must be fluent in Italian language - preferably at mother tongue level.
  • You hold an academic degree in engineering, either with a process focus form either chemistry or mechanical perspective
  • Skills within modelling of mass-balances and process engineering and/or operation and data evaluation is expected
  • Experience with working in an industrial environment where processes are an important matter
  • If you have experience with biofuel it is considered as a plus
  • Hands-on experience with covering mechanical issues as well as process - and utility related issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills English is a must
  • Proficient IT user including Word, Power Point and Excel

Personal qualifications
After an introduction at Novozymes DK, the position will to a great extend be placed in Italy, at least for the first period of time, and Novozymes expects that you will be able to work on your own. However, there will be a direct link to the director R&D, with frequent face-to-face meetings

You see yourself as a person who have a robust and persistent, yet diplomatic personality. You are able fast to understand processes and procedures related to big scale production of bioenergy and to convincingly argue the possibilities that you see for improvement.

The position
Most of the time you will be working in Italy with a direct link to the director R&D, who is placed at the Novozymes’ HQ in Bagsvaerd. You will be accepted as an important member of the team in Italy being able to support the team to fulfill their objectives, but also assisting Bioenergy EU Senior Management in strategic analysis and ad-hoc project evaluations.

You will be an expert within this field and after some years you see yourself at another important position in Novozymes.
