The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) is seeking a specialist for Bacterial Genome Engineering group.

The CFB is a research center at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) aiming at designing next generation of cell factories using advanced metabolic engineering techniques and synthetic biology. We apply cutting edge academic research methods to translational problems in chemical and protein production. 

Responsibilities and Tasks
The specialist will be part of the Genome Engineering Unit. The Genome Engineering unit is one of the four units constituting the iterative loop for cell factory generation at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability.

The specialist will report to the Genome Engineering Unit Manager and the tasks will include: To be responsible for the design and execution of E. coli genome engineering tasks, including gene over-expression, deletion or down-regulation.

  • To take an active role in translational projects aiming at developing production or platform strains based on E. coli.
  • To take a leading role in:
  • the implementation and the development of modern and efficient methods for genome engineering of E. coli.
  • the development of molecular biology tools and methods to generate industrially relevant strains of E. coli.
  • To develop, implement, maintain and expand a high throughput cloning platform based on automation and robotics.
  • To maintain the E. coli strain, plasmid and oligonucleotide libraries of the Genome Engineering Unit.
  • To supervise and plan the work of lab. technicians.
  • To handle and report experimental data in reports, lab notebooks and LIMS (Lab Info Management System).
  • To carry out any other relevant duties that may be associated to the position, and may be required from time to time.
  • To actively participate in networks and collaborations within the Center and the surrounding research community

Qualifications
The qualification requirements are:

  • A PhD or equivalent in molecular biology and several years of practical experience from academia or industry
  • Proven experience in molecular biology and/or genetics of bacteria, especially E. coli .
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, responsibility, team spirit and excellent collaboration skills
  • Computer proficiency (Word, ExCel, molecular biology softwares, LIMS)
  • Experience in working with molecular construction in a high throughput automated environment and/or experience in working in an industrial environment will be considered as distinct advantages.
  • Experience in reporting in lab notebooks and/or LIMS systems

Salary and terms of employment.
The salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

The place of work will be the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability at Kogle Allé 6, Hørsholm and the Fermentation Facility at DTU campus in Lyngby.
